159 Forward Ave: Building Opening Celebration

Join us for the grand opening of CCOC’s newest property!

CCOC will be hosting a Building Opening event on Tuesday, August 22 from 4 pm to 7 pm, and you are invited to help us celebrate!

The new property is a 49 unit, family-oriented, affordable housing apartment building on the former Forward Family Shelter site. The development is mixed-income housing and includes CMHC Average Market Rent rates, Below Market rates, and ODSP shelter rates. It is designed to the environmentally efficient Passive House standard, which will reduce tenants’ utility costs. The property will feature seven parking spaces, 49 bicycle parking spots, as well as dedicated green space for tenants to enjoy. Come find out everything there is to know about 159 Forward Ave.!

The event will include a BBQ, Merry Dairy ice cream, building tours, kids activities, and a ribbon cutting ceremony taking place at 5:30 pm. If you are planning to attend, please RSVP to engagement@ccochousing.org by Friday, August 18.

The balancing act of being a non-profit landlord

There are so many different terms to describe what CCOC does: social housing, affordable housing, community housing, non-profit housing, mixed-income housing.

I like “non-profit landlord”. It describes the core of what we do, being a landlord, but also puts front and centre that we aren’t in the business of housing for money or profit.
