About this Amazing Opportunity
The Director, People and Culture, leads the day-to-day People function and is responsible for
designing and implementing HR programs and practices to support CCOC’s mission and
strategic plan. This involves focusing on initiatives to attract, engage, develop, and retain talent.
The role leads and directs all HR functions including recruitment, employee onboarding and
offboarding, employee retention, employee engagement, leadership and employee
development, performance, and talent management, learning and development, compensation
and payroll, employee relations, compliance, as well as policy creation.

Your Responsibilities
- Creating and ensuring the successful delivery of the HR strategy that strengthens the culture
of the Corporation.
- Developing trusting partnerships within the organization to deliver HR best practices and
sustainable programs while providing value-added services.
- Advising, guiding, and supporting senior leadership and team members on all employee
relations matters.
- Designing and leading the implementation, communication and sustaining all human
resources and talent programs including implementation of consistent performance
management across the organization, succession planning, learning and development,
engagement and other HR and talent programs.
- Collaborating with the Leadership team to lead the transformation of the organization, its
strategy and change leadership initiatives.
- Leading and actively involved with the coaching, career development, training, performance management, engagement, and overall leadership of the People and Culture team.
- Ensuring all human resources matters are handled fairly and consistently in line with legislated requirements.
- Supporting Leaders in hiring new team members, ensuring standard and consistent practices for recruitment and selection.
- Ensuring compliance with and monitoring legislated employment and regulation changes and ensuring policies, procedures, and reporting are complying and making appropriate recommendations to ensure appropriate compliance.
- Ensuring Board Members are informed as needed to make sound decisions.
- Responding to complex disability management situations.
- Conducting internal workplace investigations.
- Managing CCOC employee benefits programs, liaising with payroll and benefits providers to negotiate contracts.
- Overseeing employee and volunteer training and professional development, including delegations to sector conferences.
- Advising and supporting the Health and Safety Committee.
- Working with the Executive Director, Leaders, appropriate Committees and team members to identify revisions to employment-related policies and ensuring they are kept up to date.
- Advise and support the Executive Director and Board of Directors as required on developments in legislation, identifying risk and potential for liability, policy development, workplace issues, employment related matters.
- Supporting strong internal communications, programming regular all-team meetings, and reinforcing an organizational culture of achievement and innovation.
- Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
What you Bring to the Role
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in HR Management or related discipline.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive leadership and supervision in Human Resources with broad knowledge of compliance, recruitment, compensation and benefits administration, performance management, coaching, training, health and safety, employee relations, and human resources communications.
- Professional designation (CHRP/CHRL) required.
- Strong leadership skills, nurturing an inclusive working environment.
- Exercise significant discretion and sensitivity; use consultative relationship building skills and
ability to work with diverse client groups.
- Strong client service orientation.
- Strong sense of ethical integrity and ensure adherence to employment, pension, and human
rights legislation and common law practices.
- Familiarity with diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and anti-racist organizational
change initiatives, commitment to embedding these in practice across the organization.
- Experience in payroll, benefits, and registered pension plans, such as OMERS.
- Familiarity with ADP Workforce is considered an asset.
- Advanced use of Microsoft 365.
- Advanced verbal and written communication in English.
- Advanced verbal communication in French, intermediate written communication in French.
Supervision and Decision-Making
- Decision-making forms an extremely large part of the role and will impact a major
function of the organization and corporate objectives.
- Procedures and precedents are generally not well established, so considerable
judgement and complex interpretation are required for developing solutions.
- Responsible for providing direction and oversight for the Human Resources function.
- This role is part of the senior management team of the organization, and an integral
member of the overall organizational strategic planning initiatives.
- Provides counsel to team members directly or indirectly supervised.
- Leads a small team.
- Works independently and must be able to think critically.
- Significant financial impact to the organization if errors are made.
- Frequent use of confidential information where disclosure could result in harm to the organization
Working Environment
- Interaction with internal colleagues may involve handling conflict. The incumbent
may be called upon to present material that is contentious and requires considerable
interpersonal skills.
- Interaction with external contacts involves the exchange of simple facts or critical
information.
- Low level of physical exertion required. Moderate intensity of sensory effort is
required for short periods during the workday.
- Low risk of exposure to adverse working conditions. Some local travel required.

- The incumbent may be exposed to stressful situations at times.
