Governance

As a registered non-profit, CCOC is governed by a Board of Directors who set the strategic direction of the organization. The Board of Directors are elected by the CCOC membership. CCOC has always prided ourselves on including tenants and our community in decision making. Membership is free and open to tenants and the broader Ottawa community. Our Bylaws set out the rules for governing and operating the corporation.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors provides oversight to CCOC’s strategic direction, operations, and activities, and makes sure the organization is delivering its mission and values. This work includes financial management, program and policy planning, implementation and evaluation, communication, and strategic direction.

CCOC has 14 Board Directors, and a minimum of 3 seats are reserved for CCOC tenants. Board members serve 3-year terms.

Committees

The Board’s work is supported by several Committees. Some committees are exclusively made up of board members, like the Executive Committee, while other advisory committees and working groups are by board appointment and have broader membership. These committees make recommendations on specific topics like strategy, policy, and advocacy.  To join a committee, consider running for the board, or let us know that you are interested in being appointed. Please reach out to engagement@ccochousing.org if you’d like more information.

CCOC Membership

CCOC membership lets you stay connected to the decision making at CCOC. Members receive updates from the board and committees, attend member meetings and elect the Board Directors at the Annual General Meeting.  Membership is free and open to tenants or any community member residing in the Ottawa area. Membership is annual and applications for the following year open each December.

Tenant input

Tenants can participate and influence CCOC’s direction in various ways. Tenants are encouraged to run for the Board of Directors where they can lend their perspective to our strategic decision making. Tenants are also invited to join an advisory committee, or participate in CCOC Circles, where the Management team seeks input on particular topics and policies that will directly affect tenants. Management also sets priorities based on tenant input provided through the biannual Tenant Satisfaction Survey, and ongoing maintenance feedback and our complaints process.

CCOC Bylaws

Bylaws are legal documents outlining how CCOC must operate as a member-based non-profit organization. CCOC’s Board Directors and Members can use the Bylaw as a guide to understand their roles and responsibilities in governing the organization.  In April 2024, CCOC members gathered at a special meeting of members to approve a new bylaw for the organization. This new Bylaw officially came into effect July 31, 2024.  You can find the full bylaw below, as well as an accompanying plain language guide to the bylaw.
