Picture this: What if a parking lot could become 100 affordable homes?
At the corner of Bank Street and Chamberlain Avenue, CCOC is working towards exactly that vision. In partnership with McDonald Brothers Construction (MBC), we’re exploring a new mixed-income affordable housing development at 574 and 578 Bank Street that would bring affordable rental homes to the heart of the Glebe.
Here’s what we’re planning:
While we’re still in the very early stages of planning, the current vision for the development includes:
- Approximately 100 mixed-income affordable homes
- A variety of unit sizes, with a focus on larger units
- A nine-storey residential building
- Ground floor commercial spaces along Bank Street
As the project moves through the design process, details such as accessibility features, sustainability measures, and the final unit mix will continue to be refined.
It takes significant work behind the scenes long before a shovel even hits the ground, to make a new development come to life. Planning, design, site preparation, environmental assessments, and securing financing all take time and money. And this is where community investment in the Housing Forever Bond Campaign plays an essential role.
Housing Forever Bonds creates a new way for communities to take part in building Ottawa’s affordable housing future. The campaign invites individuals, businesses, institutions, and organizations to invest in permanently affordable housing while also receiving a financial return on their investment. Investment in CCOC’s campaign offer helps fund the important early stages of development, including the work needed to prepare sites for construction. To move 574 Bank Street from concept to construction, CCOC is calling on the community: help us raise $1.5 million in Housing Forever Bonds investments. Reaching this milestone will unlock additional financing from Build Canada Homes and will bring this future community one step closer to construction.
