A friendly building is a safer building. Keeping the CCOC community safe relies on both CCOC and tenant participation. CCOC regularly takes tenant feedback into consideration when making actionable change for safer environments. To give feedback on building safety, visit our Compliments and Complaints page.
Tips for a Safer Home
Always lock your doors and windows, even when you’re doing laundry or visiting a neighbour. To secure sliding doors or windows, place a broom handle or a piece of wood in the bottom rail. Don’t forget to lock balcony doors when not in use.
- Ask a friend or neighbour to check your home and bring in your mail regularly if you will be away.
- Let your Rental Officer know who will be looking after your home if you are away. Keep your blinds and/or curtains closed, especially at night or when you are not home.
- Never let anyone into the building or your apartment if you don’t know them, and never give out your building code or a copy of your unit key.
- If you drive and your building has a garage, please wait for the garage door to close when you come or go.
- If you find improperly discarded needles or substance use gear in your neighbourhood, contact the City of Ottawa at 3-1-1 or needlereporting@ottawa.ca. Do not pick up, touch, or attempt to dispose of needles on your own. If you find gear inside your building, contact the Service Desk.
- Get to know your neighbours and look out for each other.
