Compensation: Starting wage between $65,000 and $75,000 based on a 35-hour work week. Salary commensurate based on experienced and qualifications.
Term: Fixed 3-month Casual assignment (Leave coverage) with possibility of extension.

Manager, Tenant and Community Engagement

Department: Tenant and Community Engagement
Summary
The Manager oversees projects which affect the quality of life in CCOC properties and surrounding neighbourhoods; promotes affordable housing for low- and modest-income households; oversees CCOC’s tenant engagement and volunteer programs, ensures CCOC meets its objectives to promote sustainable lifestyles; advises the Tenant and Community Engagement committee of the Board; and supervises Department staff.
Responsibilities (this is not an exhaustive list):
- Manage the Tenant and Community Engagement Department, and hires, trains, coaches and supervises staff by:
- ensuring a fair distribution of work;
- ensuring the preparation of annual work plans;
- managing performance and conducting annual performance reviews;
- ensuring that tasks in job descriptions of reporting staff are carried out and the outputs meets the organization’s goals;
- ensuring the effective integration of the Department and staff into larger corporate workflows and the organizational mission; and
- reviewing material produced by staff.
- Oversee tenant engagement and volunteering by:
- managing project planning and delivery to improve the quality of life at CCOC properties and their surrounding neighbourhoods;
- working with tenants, volunteers and community partners to help identify quality of life priorities and how to satisfy those priorities;
- managing project planning and delivery to improve CCOC volunteer programs and tenant engagement with governance;
- creating mechanisms to ensure good feedback and communication between tenants, their neighbours and CCOC staff;
- developing methods with which to evaluate tenant experience and satisfaction, communicating findings to other departments and the Board;
- consulting with other departments, primarily Rental and Facilities Management, with respect to quality of life issues;
- overseeing the planning and coordination of corporate events, such as: volunteer appreciation, property openings, neighbourhood events and the Annual General Meeting; and
- liaising with other community groups, agencies, and local organizations or businesses which may be beneficial to tenants or align with CCOC mission.
- Promote affordable housing for low- and modest-income households, by:
- coordinating CCOC’s advocacy efforts with sector associations and allies;
- creating and executing public awareness campaigns and activities; and
- contributing to media relations for the corporation, supporting designated spokespeople.
- Ensure the Corporation meets its objectives to promote sustainable lifestyles at CCOC properties by:
- overseeing the work of the TCE Facilitators, such as CCOC gardening programs;
- overseeing the work of the Communications Officer, such as using community-based social marketing strategies, to engage tenants in reducing their ecological footprint;
- sharing and promoting sustainability tools and resources across the affordable housing sector and among other interested community groups; and
- consulting and coordinating with other departments on supporting sustainability objectives, primarily Facilities Management.
- Advise and support the Tenant and Community Engagement Committee of the Board by:
- ensuring committee members are informed as needed to make sound decisions and recommendations to the Board;
- preparing regular reports to, and attending all meetings of the committee as staff support;
- advising the committee on tenant engagement and volunteer engagement.
- Performs other duties as requested by the Executive Director.
This position requires working outside business hours for events (occasionally) or committee meetings (monthly).
This position supports the work of Centretown Citizens Ottawa Corporation, Centretown Citizens Housing Co-Operative and Cahdco (Centretown Affordable Housing Development Corporation).
Education and Experience
- Completion of a four-year post-secondary degree in a related field such as Communications, Conflict Studies, Public Relations, Media Relations, Marketing, Human Rights, Sociology, etc.
- 5 years of related work experience, with minimum 3 years’ supervisory experience (demonstrated leadership abilities are a must).
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
- Intermediate ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
- Advanced verbal communication in English, advanced written communication in English.
- Advanced verbal communication in French, intermediate written communication in French.
- Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset.
- Availability to work occasionally outside of business hours (evenings and weekends) to support events and governance.
