Tenant-led Initiatives

CCOC encourages and supports tenants who want to bring community building and sustainability initiatives to life where they live! Over the years, tenants have celebrated together by decorating common areas for holidays, gardened to beautify shared spaces, and hosted community barbecues and events.

CCOC supports tenant-led initiatives that are open to all tenants where they live and that are in line with CCOC’s mission and values. We would love to help bring your idea to life!

If you have an idea you would like to explore, please fill out and submit the form on this page. You can also contact the Tenant and Community Engagement by email and by phone.

Decorate for a Holiday

Do you want to share some holiday joy in your building? CCOC can provide funding for tenants to add seasonal sparkle for everyone to enjoy. Tenants can request up to $20.00 per holiday for lobby or common area decorations.

Whether it’s Halloween, Diwali, Lunar New Year, or Hanukah, making your building festive is a great way to share your holiday traditions and connect with your neighbours!

Host a Community Event

Do you have a great event idea to bring you and your neighbours together? Do you want to celebrate a holiday, or host a casual get together? Let us know—we can help!

Tenants planning an event can request up to $50.00 for events where all tenants in your building are invited. CCOC can provide free access to a meeting room, and we have a large barbecue you can use too.

Tenants have planned past events ranging from tea parties to arts and craft gatherings to harvest picnics. What fun way will you get to know your neighbours?

Common Area Gardening

Do you like to garden? If you would like to care for and beautify a common area at your property, let us know! Tenants who are approved to garden in common areas can also request up to $75.00 for plants and soil.

To get started, submit your Common Area Gardening request by the end of April. Please note that all gardening in common areas must be approved by CCOC before you start gardening, even if you are not requesting any funds.

The Tenant and Community Engagement Facilitator will get in touch with you in May about your request. If you submit your request after April, your request may still be approved if funds remain.

The Common Area Gardening initiative is for CCOC tenants who want to create an ornamental garden in a common area. CCOC also has a Community Garden Program where tenants can sign up for their own garden plot. If your building has community garden plots and you want to sign up, please click here.

Workshops and Skill Sharing

Do you want to learn more about a particular topic? Do you have skills or interests you want to share with others? Let us know! We want to co-organize events and workshops based on tenant interests, so let us know what topics matter to you and your neighbours.

Workshop topics could be gardening, self-defense, sour dough baking, cookie decorating, personal finance—you name it! Tell us what you’d like to see and how it will benefit your community and we can help make it happen.
